The SYI’s ultimate goal is to produce a yearly literary journal that showcases a variety of voices and perspectives. The journal (The Hour of the Pearl) continues to be a collection of academic papers and creative work (photography, poetry, short fiction, etc.), with submissions by members of the Steinbeck Youth Institute and outside writers/scholars/artists.
